We Went whale watching off the coast of Friday Harbor, Washington. Several pods of killer whales always around the island and easy to find. And the boat with the dog, a whale poop sniffing dog named Tucker! No kidding. He’s trained by researchers to sniff out the whale poop so they can scoop it up and study it. We have VERY lazy dogs!
We’re on vacation! The last one EVER according to Brad. First stop, Cupcake Royale in Seattle for some gourmet cupcakes and ‘family’ friendly stickers and Tshirts. Next up, Anacortez to board the ferry for Friday Harbor!
Brad called our hotel to let them know about our late arrival and ask for dinner recommendations. This was her suggestion! Turns out, it wasn’t bad.
After a long cruise, lengthy lines through customs and many vet bills, we are excited to be heading home today!
We split up for excursions today – Brad took a trolly through town while Jodi, Cindi & Jean took a kayak trip around Eagle Island. The weather has been beautiful the whole trip and today was no exception. We were able to see several eagles and took some pretty good pictures… At one point we were within 15 feet from one!
After the train ride we took a stroll through Skagway and got in a little shopping.
We had to be up and off the boat early this morning to catch our first excursion – the White Pass Railway train up through the “gateway to the gold fields”. This turned out to be a great opportunity for some sight seeing.
Another relaxing day at sea. Most of the day was spent traveling through Glacier Bay. We were lucky to see several wales and seals as we approached the Marjorie glacier. We stayed there for about an hour and watched the glacier “calving” or breaking off into the water. We then moved on to the Johns Hopkins glacier and were thrilled to spot a brown bear on the beach!
Today was relatively uneventful since we will be at sea for the next two days. We saw Hubbard Glacier, hit the buffet a couple of times, and played a few games of bingo before our first formal dinner. Surprisingly, we all cleaned up pretty nicely!
We’ve finally made it on board the Island Princess and as of 7pm we’ve already eaten twice!
But before we can cruise, we must Muster!
It wouldn’t be a vacation without a segway tour! Although there is really not much to see in Anchorage, we did have fun zooming around town! One historic location was this statue of Balto marking the starting point for the annual Iditarod race.
