Today we lost our little Lily to a hawk that pulled her away from the rest of the flock.
Rest in peace, Lily

Our neighbor, Matt, announced rather suddenly his intentions to sell his house and move. With his move came a dilemma – what to do with the turkeys? Since the turkeys were part of the first impression Jodi had of JB Ranch, it was difficult to see them go…. so we adopted them! Billy Bob (Right) and Willy Bob (Left), collectively known as, “The Bobs”, are Royal Palm Turkeys and not meant for consumption. Their arrival at Thanksgiving time is purely coincidental. Both moved in to their new digs this past Sunday and after they have a few days to get used to their surroundings, we’ll give them free roam of the ranch…along with all the rest of the menagerie!
After minimal success trying to shoot and poison the mice, we decided to invest in some experts… Meet Tigger and Nermal! Nermal, aka the world’s cutiest kitty, is the long haired orange tabby. He likes to take it easy and have his tummy rubbed. Tigger is the short haired tabby who loves to jump without looking first…he quickly found his favorite place on top of Jodi’s shoulder!
It’s hard to believe, but during the winters the ground gets a little muddy around here. After months of research Brad found a solution for horse pastures made from layers of fabric, gravel and scalpings. Before the rains hit this year, we broke ground to create two indoor/outdoor stalls…
Each fall, the Elwood Community in Colton holds an annual picnic for all of the locals. This was our first year to attend and we had the opportunity to meet many pillars of the community. John, one of our neighbors, roasted a pig on a spit. We also learned that, in the past, the picnic was held at the church. But in order to encourage a larger turnout, this year they decided to meet across the street in the cemetery! After the feast the call went out looking for volunteers for next years bash. Somehow without knowing quite what happened, Jodi was elected assistant to the co-chair of the planning committee for 2008. We’re starting to figure out that not much happens without the declaration of a formal committee!
After spending a month away from home, Dee Dee brought her boyfriends back to JB Ranch. It took a little while for Kobe to make friends with the bulls, but after Brad dropped off the roundbale, all got along great!
Brad spent many hours planning and designing our new wood shelter.
We started with the posts and the frame…
And when we got to the top, Brad had a creative idea… notice the warning on the tractor
Luckily, we finished the shelter without incident and it turned out great
Brandi even found a way to help!
Driving back from the Bledsoe family reunion in Yakama, Washington, we noticed a bunch of kite boarders on the Willamette River. There were so many beautiful kites, we just had to stop and take pictures… Jean will definitely find a new hobby when she comes up for a visit in the fall.
We first met Rhonda and Lance in response to a Craigslist posting for stove pipe. Since then, Rhonda has turned out to be the person who knows everyone and anyone worth knowing in Clackamas County! So when Rhonda invited us to her birthday party, we couldn’t say no. She lives right down the street on Shibley (in the no-shoot zone), and we were able to meet a few more of our Shibley kin.
Here are Jodi and Brad being social (surprising this rare occurance was caught on film!)
