Extrication Class

We spent both Saturday and Sunday at a Firefighter’s extrication class. On Saturday we broke into teams and practiced tearing apart cars with different types of tools and then Sunday we had to run through full scenarios to extricate patients using all the skills we learned the previous day. The course was led by several volunteer firefighters from the Dallas, Oregon fire department – they compete every year in extrication competitions and are VERY impressive. We had a blast!!

Emergency Room Rotations

As part of the EMT Basic requirements, we had to complete at least 8 hours in an emergency room. It just happened to work out that we could complete a rotation at the same hospital on the same night! Here is Brad looking studious in between patients.

And here is our assigned nurse transporting a patient from the emergency room to the ICU

Bailey’s Diagnosis

We procrastinated most of the morning but there was no denying it…Chuckie’s fences just had to be fixed. We finally rustled up the motivation and headed out to the back only to find Bailey struggling to breathe. She was wheezing and coughing (she looked just like Jodi during an asthma attack). We immediately called the vet and, sure enough, the vet thinks Bailey has asthma! In order to help control her breathing, we now water down her hay and try to keep her outdoors (instead of in the barn) as much as possible.
