Bon Voyage!

Although off to a bit of a rocky start (Jodi’s plane was delayed from Dallas Friday night), we all made it onto the ship – the Saphire Princess. We met up with Joel and Heidi, and Will and Crystal. The ship is about to depart so we’re gonna hit the buffet!

Is that smoke I smell??

While Brad was working in a data center on the other side of Portland, he thought he smelled smoke. Not thinking too much of it, he walked outside the data center to find lots of fire trucks and crews battling an commercial fire right next door! Check out his TV debut as he was sought out by the local news anchor for a comment:

Time to Celebrate!!!

After days and days of non-stop practice, we passed our EMT practicals today! We tested in 6 stations (Cardiac arrest management, Trauma assessment, Medical assessment, Airway Management/PEAD, KED – Seated spinal immobilization, and the random station – Jodi drew splinting and Brad drew Oxygen administration) and we passed all on the first try! Wheeeew! We have been so stressed out the last few days we almost didn’t feel like eating dinner at the Colton Cafe Friday night (note the word almost – we did manage to take a break and set aside our nerves for an hour). We thought we were stressed going into the test this morning…but Brad said someone chundered all over the bathroom floor in the men’s room. Looks like we weren’t alone!
Now we just have to get past the National computer-based test and we’ll be official Oregon EMTs!

Natural Gas Line Break

Jodi stayed home from work today to prepare for this weekend’s EMT state practical exams. A little after 1pm a mutual aid call for Molalla toned out – Natural Gas line break in downtown Molalla! Jodi made it on the engine and, when on scene, the Colton crew was responsible for pulling several hose lines, spraying down the concrete above the broken line before the Natural Gas crews began cutting in to the pavement to repair the pipe. Jodi was on the nozzle and got to watch the crews reach the gas line – it was amazing to see how much gas was coming out of the broken line! It’s difficult to tell from the picture, but there is a huge amount of natural gas shooting out of the middle of the hole in the ground! Jodi and crew stood by with hoses at the ready in case anything sparked. The Colton crew also had a bit of a scare when it was discovered the at the engine was parked directly over a manhole that had the potential to blow! It was a very exciting afternoon! Since the crews planned to be on site well into the night, Jodi had to call Brad and have him pick her up in time to make it to EMT finals!

Washington D.C.

Jodi has an annual USDA Food Program conference in Washington D.C. each February and this year Brad decided to come along. We arrived two days early to take in the sights and had a blast tooling around the capital on Segways!!! Check out the short video Brad took while riding the Segway!
