First Friday

We have a weekend full of local activities and kicked it off with First Friday – an event in Estacada where local businesses stay open late and host local artists. One store opened up their back room for a jam session. Look closely – you might recognize a few of the band members from Rhonda’s wedding!

Please, please don’t drink & drive

A two vehicle accident sent both drivers to the hospital early Sunday evening when a Dodge pickup truck and a compact car collided on Highway 211 east ofUnger Road inColton, sending both vehicles off the road and into a deep ditch.

The pickup was heading east with a load of furniture when an oncoming car went off the road, catching the sloping dirt shoulder.

According to a state trooper on the scene, the driver of the car over-corrected as she brought the car back onto the road and lost control. It spun into the eastbound lane and the pickup hit the rear of the car, taking off the door and plowing into the back end.

Colton Volunteer Fire Department Duty Officer David Wales was first on the scene, followed by Colton-Elwood Station responders, Jodi and Brad Kuhn. Molalla Fire District and Clackamas County Sheriff’s deputies also assisted on the scene.

โ€œBoth drivers were conscious,โ€ Wales said.

The female driver of the car was trapped inside her vehicle. The three Colton volunteer firefighters/EMTs on scene pulled the woman from her car and assessed the injuries of both drivers.

The male driver of the truck was taken from the scene of the accident by ambulance. The woman was taken by ambulance to Colton Elementary School where she was transported by a Life Flight Network helicopter. Both drivers were transported to OHSU. Their names have not been released.

There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Oregon State Police are still investigating the accident.

Great White SKUNK Hunter

So now that Tucker has been sprayed by the skunk THREE times in less than a year, we’re sending in the big guns… The Great White Hunter!

Tuesday night’s attempt wasn’t so successful…Brad, uh- I mean, GWH loaded up and headed out into the night. Within a few short moments Jodi and the dogs (safe in the house) heard gun shots… Three, four, TWELVE! Wow! The little guy must have been putting up quite the fight! Oh but no- he made it out without a scratch. Apparantly the GWH has a “bad scope” .

Tonight he’s really prepared – with the good rifle, the better scope, and a back up pistol (check out the hip holster). The skunk doesn’t have a chance! We’ll, maybe ๐Ÿ™‚

Tigger’s New Toy

Tigger got a new toy last week and he drags it with him all through the house. It’s just a piece of fabric secured to a plastic stick. He doesn’t wait for anyone to play with him… We’ve found him tangled up all on his own several times this week!

Hay Season

It’s that time of year again- hay! We were planning on going to drills tonight but then got a call from Jim, our hay source down the road. The hay has been cut and it might rain tomorrow. So here we are, almost 10pm on a Wednesday night, bucking hay!

Topsy Turvy Berries

We’ve never been able to grow strawberries – as soon as a berry starts to ripen a duck or a ckicken would attack! This year we planted 25 strawberry plants (along with some cilantro, basil, oregano, and rosemary) in the topsy turvy planters…. Fingers crossed!
