It’s been a while since we’ve had a chance to get together with some of our old fire department and neighborhood friends so this weekend we did fondue night.  We ended up with enough people coming that our house just wasn’t going to do it so we rented the local one room school house.

The Elwood School was built in 1892 and up until the 1970’s (that’s what we’ve heard anyway) served as the neighborhood school for K-12 (all together).  If you’ve ever seen Little House on the Prairie, the Elwood School is pretty much right out of that.

Behind the school house are also the outhouses (1 for boys, 1 for girls) but they have been updated to include fancy toilet seats (not likely 1892 original equipment).  They still work though (not much to go wrong really).

Fondue was great and we had almost 15 attend.  We’ll have to do this again, it was great.

P.S.  Take a look at the last picture of the foundation.  Looks like in 1892 large rocks were the foundation they built the building on and they are still working well 120 years later.
