Reading about ways to create a Montessori style learning environment at home for Kenzie, I ran across the suggestion to set up treasure baskets. The objects in these baskets can be random, everyday items and can be grouped by theme. The premise behind the basket is to encourage heuristic play; to allow Kenzie to explore her environment and to be exposed to various objects, textures, and sounds at her own pace. Now that she is sitting up (mostly) unsupported, this was a good time to make her first treasure basket. We started with shiny things (Mickie – I had Tucker check my work and he confirmed – everything in the basket is, in fact, shiny!)
